Terms of Service
Effective Date: April 1, 2025
Applies to: Social Good Community Centre Membership, On Canada Project Inc, and all affiliated digital community spaces
1. Welcome — And Let’s Be Clear
This is not a neutral space.
This community exists to challenge injustice, support truth-telling, and push toward collective liberation. By joining, you agree to engage in a space that is unapologetically rooted in equity, human rights, and a rejection of oppressive systems—including white supremacy, settler colonialism, capitalism, ableism, cisheteropatriarchy, and all forms of domination.
If that makes you uncomfortable, this may not be the space for you.
2. Work in Progress Disclaimer
We are a living, breathing, evolving space—not a finished product.
You are joining a community in motion. Mistakes will happen. Language will change. Feedback is welcome, but entitlement is not. You do not have a right to access our labor on your terms.
3. Values & Conduct
We expect members to:
Engage with curiosity, respect, and humility
Own their impact, not just their intent
Avoid tone policing, gaslighting, or derailment
Understand that calling out harm is a form of care, not aggression
We do not tolerate:
Racism, transphobia, ableism, misogyny, classism, fatphobia, antisemitism (not to be conflated with criticism of Israel as a state), Islamophobia, casteism, or any form of systemic harm
Bad-faith debate or disinformation
Demands for neutrality or “both sides”
Using our platform to center white feelings, play devil’s advocate, or undermine the emotional or political safety of others
4. Content + Labour Protection
Everything shared here—written, visual, emotional, or otherwise—is not free for public consumption.
Do not screenshot, repost, or reproduce content elsewhere without explicit permission
This includes posts, comments, graphics, ideas, or frameworks
This is a values-driven space, not content fodder or a resource bank for adjacent institutions to mine without reciprocity or credit
5. IP + Brand Boundaries
All original materials, frameworks, visual branding, and written content produced by Social Good Collective, On Canada Project, and associated partners are protected under copyright. They cannot be copied, altered, or distributed without explicit permission. This includes:
Our tone and language (yes, that’s part of the brand)
Original campaigns or communication frameworks
Community rituals, onboarding flows, or content formats
6. Access Is Conditional, Not Guaranteed
This space is not a public square—it is a curated ecosystem.
We reserve the right to remove, suspend, or restrict any member who:
Violates the values or causes harm
Weaponizes identity or DEI language to shield accountability
Attempts to commercialize, co-opt, or repackage our labor
We do not owe anyone access, especially if it comes at the cost of the community’s safety, trust, or cohesion.
7. Mutual Accountability > Performative Civility
This is not a space for passive consumption or politeness politics.
We expect members to participate with awareness of power, privilege, and responsibility. If you get called in or out, we invite you to reflect and repair—not defend or deflect.
If you cause harm and double down, you will be removed.
This is not cancel culture. This is consequence culture.
8. No Commercial Use Without Consent
You may not use this space to:
Sell or market your services without permission
Extract insights for your consulting firm, research paper, or institution
Pitch programs, AI tools, or partnerships that dilute our values or extract from our community
We support collaboration and partnership—but only when it’s reciprocal and aligned.
9. Your Data + Privacy
We do not sell your data.
We do not tolerate surveillance, scraping, or third-party tracking.
We expect members to respect each other’s privacy, vulnerability, and digital safety.
10. Governing Law (Because We Have To Say It)
These Terms are governed by the laws of Ontario Canada, but we operate by a higher standard: community care, justice, and consent.
11. By Clicking “I Agree,” You Acknowledge That…
You are entering a space where power, privilege, and systems will be named
You may be challenged—but not shamed
You are responsible for how you show up
You understand this is not a customer service platform
You are choosing to be part of something intentionally different
Exhibit A – Future-Proofing Clauses
A.1. Evolution Clause
We reserve the right to adapt, revise, or expand these Terms to reflect evolving community needs, legal considerations, or political realities. You will be notified of significant changes, but participation signals continued agreement.
A.2. Alignment Clause
Any tech platform, contractor, or collaborator must align with the values outlined here. We reserve the right to terminate relationships with any third party that undermines our ethics, mission, or community wellbeing.
A.3. Mutual Consent Clause
Access to this space is reciprocal. Your presence here requires active, informed, and ongoing consent—from both you, and from us. That consent can be withdrawn at any time.
Exhibit B: Additional Protective Clauses
B.1. No Neutrality Policy
This community explicitly rejects the notion of neutrality in the face of injustice. Members are expected to acknowledge and address systemic inequalities. Attempts to derail conversations with "both sides" arguments or demands for neutrality will not be tolerated.
B.2. Human Rights Commitment
Our platform is grounded in the unwavering support of human rights for all. Content or behavior that undermines these rights, including hate speech or discriminatory actions, is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate removal.
B.3. Evolving Community Standards
Recognizing that language and social understandings evolve, our community standards are subject to change. Members are expected to stay informed and adapt to these changes, fostering an environment of continuous learning and growth.
B.4. Protection Against Exploitation
Members are prohibited from using this community to extract information, labor, or content for personal gain without explicit consent. This includes, but is not limited to, academic research, media publications, or commercial endeavors.
B.5. Accountability and Repair
We believe in the power of accountability and the possibility of repair. Members who cause harm are expected to engage in restorative practices, which may include public apologies, participation in educational sessions, or other actions deemed appropriate by community facilitators.
B.6. Intersectional Inclusivity
Our community acknowledges the interconnected nature of social categorizations such as race, class, and gender. Members are encouraged to approach discussions with an understanding of these intersections and to avoid one-dimensional analyses of complex issues.
B.7. Emotional Labour Acknowledgment
Recognizing the emotional labor often undertaken by marginalized individuals, members are expected to self-educate and utilize available resources before seeking guidance from others. Repeated demands for education without effort to self-inform may result in moderated access.
B.8. Content Sharing and Attribution
While we encourage the sharing of knowledge, members must obtain permission before distributing content outside the community. Proper attribution is required, and any misuse or misrepresentation of content will be addressed promptly.
Exhibit C: Additional Clauses
C.1. Embracing Diverse Expressions of Allyship
We recognize that allyship is not monolithic. Members are encouraged to engage in ways that align with their capacities and contexts, without the pressure to conform to a singular model of activism. Diverse approaches are valued, provided they align with our core principles of equity and justice.
C.2. Rejecting Performative Purity
This community does not uphold unrealistic standards of perfection. We acknowledge that individuals are on varied journeys of learning and unlearning. Members are expected to approach each other with empathy, understanding that missteps are opportunities for growth, not grounds for exclusion.
C.3. Navigating Conflict with Care
Disagreements are natural in any community. We commit to addressing conflicts constructively, prioritizing dialogue and mutual understanding over public shaming or ostracization. Members are encouraged to engage in restorative practices when tensions arise.
C.4. Upholding Collective Responsibility
While individual actions matter, we emphasize the importance of collective responsibility. Members are expected to contribute to a culture of mutual support, recognizing that our strength lies in our unity and shared commitment to transformative change.
